Dancing On Ice Beauty Secrets!

Hands up who’s been watching the final series of Dancing On Ice? Yes, we may have watched the real thing last week at the Sochi Winter Olympics, but we love a skating celebrity more!

rene metcalfeAs well as the fabulous skating, we are in it for the glitz and glamour!

Those crazy costumes, and the amazing hair and make up are the best bit of the show, agreed?

So we decided to find out who gives the celebriuty ice queens and pro skaters their amazing look, and had a chat with René Metcalfe, Make-up Designer for Dancing on Ice who shared her tricks of the trade with us.

5PM: Hey Rene, what’s the first thing to consider when you are making up the Dancing On Ice faces?

RENE: A primer is the place to start – a good skin primer will hold your makeup in place all day. We use StageLine products for the show, and their Professional Silk Veil instantly smoothes and reduces the appearance of open pores. It provides us with an even base to apply makeup onto on all of our Dancing On Ice beauties!

How flawless does the makeup have to be?

It has to be picture perfect. It’s a live show, so we have to ensure the makeup is absoutely flawless. There’s no time for re-takes and we film in HD so it all has to be perfect. I like Mistair’s Airbrush Makeup Foundation, because it gives a great coverage with a flawless and even finish. Suzanne Shaw, who was voted off last week, has beautiful, light golden skin. I enhanced that using this foundation in Honey.

The skaters are always being told to smile – and we think Hayley knows how! What lipstick is she wearing?

Show stopping lips are essential! Hayley has a great smile, and I enhance that by using Stage Professional Lipstick in Hot Poppy. This bright red hude gives a great pop of colour to her lovely smile!

Doing the eye makeup must be fun!?

I love doing the eyes. We use StageLine Light Eye Shadows – they’re so easy to use, you just roll on and blend for really intense, iridescent colour. For Beth Tweddle recently I used the shadow in Light Gold, with Precise Liner in black and Max Effect mascara in black as well. Gorgeous stunning, glitzy eyes!

We highlight and contour, using Mistair Airbrush Makeup Blusher to definethe cheekbones and Mistair Airbrush Makeup Highlight & Shimmer to add some Dancing On Ice sparkle and shimmer! The Blusher comes in various shades.
