Paul Mitchell Curls

When I was a teenager in the 1980s, big, huge hair was fashionable. But curly hair just never really played ball. Those big, voluminous styles needed a bit of wave, not full on curls.

But let’s be honest – I never ever had hair as big as Joan Cusack or Melanie Griffths in 1980s movie classic, Working Girl! Enough to put anyone off big hair for life! It took me years to embrace my curls, and, if the truth be told, I still don’t really. But natural curls are beautiful, and yet so often maligned by their owners.

Who doesn’t reach for the hair straighteners now and then? But if there was ever a time to embrace your curls, it’s now. There are loads of products on the market aimed specifically at curly hair.

Aveda launched new products into their Curl Control range last year, and now Paul Mitchell have launched a new curling range – simply called ‘curls’

It contains four products to detangle, define and smoothe your curls – and fight the dreaded frizz that the curly-headed of us are all too aware of. I think that’s the problem with curly hair -we fear the frizz. But haircare technology has moved on so much, there isn’t a hair type that can’t be teased to its best these days!

Spring Loaded Frizz-Flighting Shampoo Zero Frizz (£14.95) works up into a rich lather which cleanses the curls without roughing up the cuticle, fighting frizz from the start. This shampoo cleanses, detangles and conditions in one step.

But you can follow with Full Circle Leave-In Treatment Frizz-Free Curl Therapy (£14.95) which is a lightweight conditioning treatment which won’t weigh the hair down. It hydrates and detangles and replenishes thirsty locks.

There are two other products in the range – Twirl Around Crunch-Free Curl Definer (£18.95) looks good enough to eat in the bottle – but we don’t advise it! This dual formula swirls together hydrating cream and smoothing gel. It defines, separates and tames unruly curls without frizz or crunchiness – this will help curls retain their shape all day long.

Finally, Ultimate Wave Beachy Texture Cream-Gel (£11.95) is a perfect summer product – and one that can give you those summer waves long after the summer sun has set come autumn! It forms, separates and adds loads of texture – more of a messy, curly look than refined curls. It’s humidity-resistant for perfectly imperfect frizz-free styles.

The last product is great – I love that beachy, summer wave look, and postively embrace it on holiday – so why not every other time of the year as well?!
