Fake it!

There is a lot of pasty white skin walking by at the moment, mine included! The sun is out, we’re baring our bodies, and they are not bronzed! I’m not a massive fake tan fan, but I like a little bit of colour in the sunshine. These are my legs, tanned up with ModelCo One Night Tan Wash Off Instant Bronze Mousse, £12 boots.com) – it’s an instant tanning mousse that I blended on with a fake tan mitt. It gave me a lovely light colour, and washed off in the morning. I like instant tans – I get into a bit of a mess with fake tans!

But, I am going to give a James Read fake tan a go. James has been on the new Gok Wan Stripping for Summer Channel 4 show, imparting his fake tanning knowledge – and it’s quite amazing – ice cubes, paint rollers and all!

James’s fake tans have the best packaging around – and in June he launched two new Tanning Sprays (£24.50 each, Harvey Nichols and jamesreadtan.com)  – Clear and Instant – so one goes on clear, just giving you that smooth, silky look, the other goes on instantly bronze!

They contain aloe vera to soothe the skin, Q10 and Vitamin E to combat the ageing process. They’re non-stick, fragrance free and dry in under 60 seconds. “A bronzing spray is the easiest method for tanning hard-to-reach ares, such as the sides and back,” says James. “Try spraying over your shoulders then leaning forward so the tan settles lightly on the back.”

What is your favourite fake tan brand and formula? Or do you prefer to go natural?
