Cover FX - reformulated, repackaged

2 min read

Canadaian brand Cover FX have had a bit of a makeover, so it was only fitting that their National Makeup Artist Viktor Charles gave the beauty press makeovers, to show it off.

Last month Viktor came to the brand’s only Scottish counter, at Edinburgh’s Harvey Nichols, opened in Autumn 2011,  to show off the new products, and the brand’s new look. The new product innovation is under stellar beauty guardianship, with new CEO Sharon Collier, previously of Laura Mercier Cosmetics and Chief Innovation Officer Victor Casale, previous founding partner, Chief Chemist and Managing Director at MAC.

Cover FX old and new

Cover FX was created in 1985 by corrective makeup specialist Lee Graff  and leading dermatologist Dr Neil Shear to help people with acne, rosacea, scarring and other imperfections. The brand has grown steadily over the years, with the foundations and powders their most prized products. They have a vast range of shades, across the yellow, pink and neutral toned spectrum, so you will definitely find a match here.

The makeup is essentially like skincare, and is free of mineral oils, fragrances, glutens and parabens and safe for use on even the most sensitive skin. The new formulations feature even more healthy-skin ingredients by eliminating talc in all powder formulations.

All foundations include antioxidant Vitamins C and E derived from Green Tea Extract to help soothe inflammation and redness and also protect against premature skin aging.

Cover FX has also changed their packaging – the old style is on the left in the photo, the new on the right – it’s a move to a sleeker, shinier look. There are also new products, including the new SPF30 Protection Primer, pictured in the middle, above.

Cover FX have excellent primers – this one protects the skin from external elements while hydrating and smoothing the skin to blur the appearance of fine lines and pores, as well as facilitating extended wear of the foundations and powders.

The new Cover FX ‘Global Palette’ includes Total Cover Cream Foundation SPF30  (£34), available in 28 shades, Pressed Mineral Foundation (£31), in 24 shades, Blotting Powder (£22), Matte Setting Powder (£26), and Illuminating Setting Powder (£26).

Here’s a Before and After of my Cover FX makeover.

Cover FX before and after

In the ‘Before’ pic, I have no face makeup on at all. In the ‘After’ you can clearly see the even tone, and coverage the products give.

Cover FX merleAnd here’s another ‘After’ shot – I look a bit glum, but you can see how flawless my complexion looks.

I think for everyday use, it’s a bit much for me, primer, foundation, concealer and powder, but the products are excellent, and worth checking out at Harvey Nichols.
