From BB to CC - the new beauty buzz - Clinique Moisture Surge CC cream review

2 min read

Last year it was BB creams, this year we’ve moved up one letter, and the beauty buzz is around CC creams. This is the first premium CC cream to hit the UK market, from Clinique, and it will be on counters next month – Clinique’s Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 Hydrating Colour Corrector.

So, what is a CC cream? Basically, it stands for Colour Correction, or Complexion Correction, and like the BB cream, it originated in Japan, and is popular in Asia, where they just love the whole skincare layering routine.

CC-cream-tubeYou know those coloured concealers you get – lilac, peach, green, etc? Well, I guess this is a sort of do-all one of those, in a much lighter, much more modern way, with new technology that allows it to be a formula you can apply over your whole face, or in parts, and a formula which utilises light to achieve effects on all sorts of skin tones. It’s like a makeup primer, with tint and benefits, really.

So, if you have dull, ashy skin, it appears luminous and brighter; sallow, yellow skin turns into a more peachy glow; blotchy redness is neutralised. It also corrects skin imperfections.

This is part of the Clinique Moisture Surge range, so it also, of course, has hydrating properties. I’ve used it a few times since I got my hands on one last week, and as you can see from my hand swatches (which I normally never do, but think it shoes here), it does look a bit scary as you apply – this is the very light shade. But, once blended in, it’s not noticeable – seamless.

If you want to wear it under foundation, it’s like wearing a primer that gives a little bit more. If you want to wear it alone, it’s like wearing less than a tinted moisturiser (or a BB cream, which are those, with benefits, I guess). Wearing it alone, is for the complexion confident – if you feel your skin can go almost bare, then this is a great product for just ‘touching up’, the imperfections, as it were.

It’s such a new product, I think I have to persevere with it for another week or two to see if it is for me.

Clinique New Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 Hydrating Colour Corrector, £28, is available exclusively from John Lewis, from April 5, and Brown Thomas Dublin, from March 29, and nationwide at Clinique counters and clinique.co.uk, from April 26.
