Paul Mitchell's Cruelty Free pledge

2 min read

I love Paul Mitchell hair products. For many reasons. Not only do they work on my over-dyed, over-processed barnet, co-founder Paul Mitchell was a proud Scot, and, they have, since their creation, been cruelty-free.

And last month, Paul Mitchell co-founder and CEO John Paul DeJoria and Cruelty Free International CEO Michelle Thew, met before press to launch a very special partnership between the two.

Paul Mitchell is the only cruelty-free professional hair care brand to be endorsed by Cruelty Free International under the Leaping Bunny programme, the most rigorous international no-animal-testing certification. Cruelty Free International is the global campaign to end animal testing for consumer products including cosmetics and toiletries. No Animal Testing Bunny

Established by the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection), one of the world’s longest standing and most respected animal protection organisations, Cruelty Free International is head-quartered in London from where an international network of organisations are mobilised in a coordinated campaign.

Amazingly, over 80% of the world still allows animals to be used in cruel and unnecessary cosmetics tests. People do not want animals to suffer and die for cosmetics and toiletries, and there are many safer and humane ways of testing products and ingredients. Cruelty Free International’s global campaign is calling on governments and regulators around the world to introduce a ban on animal testing for cosmetics products and ingredients.

Paul Mitchell is working together with the Chinese government to find alternative methods to animal testing.

“Since Paul Mitchell was founded in 1980, we have been cruelty-free. We do not conduct or condone animal testing on our products, and we will not attempt to market our products in China until alternatives to animal testing methods have been accepted by the government. Paul Mitchell always has been and always will be cruelty-free!” said DeJoria.
