BeneFit Brows

Your eyebrows define your face. BeneFit have this system called ‘brow-mapping’ where they show you where your brows should be on your face, and then they wax and pluck them to that specification.

Threading has become huge in the UK over the last few years, but I find it really painful, particularly on my left eyebrow. I do, however, love the smoothness afterwards, as it removes all of the downy hair around your brows. If you fancy threading, waxing or plucking, then have a look at the 5pm Health and Beauty site or deals in your area.

BeneFit Brow Bar, John Lewis, Edinburgh

Or, if you are in Glasgow Edinburgh, or Stirling head along to a BeneFit Brow Bar like I did. I was booked in for a wax and a tint, and the lovely Lauren attended to me. I will, however,  say straight off that my brows are a bit darker than I would have liked. Lauren recommended the medium shade and I went with it, but it really is too dark.

This is my brow before, on the left,  (with BeneFit Browzings applied) and after, on the right. You can also see the change in shape, and this comes from the ‘brow-mapping’. Lauren marked my eyebrows in three places, and showed me. I did notice that perhaps she had moved the ‘map’ of my brows slightly, but it’s one of those situations where there isn’t really a lot you can say, without coming over as exceptionally awkward.

So, she began, with care and attention, prepping the area, and then applying the tint. When she showed me in the mirror, I immediately knew it was a bit dark, but I know eyebrow tint fades pretty quickly, so it’s not too much of an issue. Then she began prepping and then waxing, and it was a pretty slick and painless process. She showed me one brow, and it looked okay – all I could really focus on was how dark the tint was.

When she was finished, and had applied various BeneFit products, including a lovely cooling, soothing gel, I saw the final result. I could see immediately that the shape was very different to how I normally have my brows. The peak of the arch seemed to be further over to the outside of my eyes, and the bottom of the end of the brow was much lower.

Lauren had explained that BeneFit’s brow mapping is to do three things – where your brow ends at your nose is to make your nose look thinner, your arch peak is to lift the eye area, and the end of the brow is to be in line with the cheekbone to lift.

Maybe I’m just too maverick for these strict beauty rules, and I have to admit that since I had my brows done, I have plucked them up at the bottom again, and once they grow a bit, I know I will reshape my arch.

When Lauren showed me the final result, I suggested that they could be a bit thinner, and was told that ‘BeneFit don’t thin eyebrows’. I think the reason I felt my brows looked thicker came from the tint which had highlighted the palest of brow hairs I rarely see!

However, it was an all-round great experience – no pain, no fuss, excellent service, and it’s pretty good value at £18 for a brow wax and tint – just make sure you choose the right colour of tint!

Oh, and they do a lovely little ‘maker-upper’ service at the end, so you won’t walk away with red round your brows, and makeup askew!
