Ditch That Moisturiser!?

I came across this article on the Daily Mail website called ‘Is your Misturiser Drying Out Your Skin’. Basically, it’s some differing opinions from the beauty industry on whether moisturiser – that we spend £549 million a year on, according to Mintel – is actually needed.

It’s a bit like the shampoo debate. Yes, the natural oils from your hair will begin to cleanse your hair after you leave it for a long enough time, but have you ever tried this? I have, and it’s not pleasant, and I am a  little bit scared of the same principle being applied to my poor face. I think I tend to agree with a Dr Preema Vig, a Harley Street cosmetic doctor quoted in the article, who says: ‘In an ideal world the skin should not need moisturising. But because of what the environment throws at our skin, not to mention lifestyle factors, our skin needs help.’

My help comes in the winter in the form of Clarins HydraQuench Rich Cream (£33.50, clarins.co.uk), which helps no end with my poor, dried out skin! And for an extra boost, I use their HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase (£40) to give my skin the long drink it needs!

What do you think? Do you rely on moisturiser, or do you think your skin can replenish it’s own moisture, left to its own devices. Join the debate, leave a comment!
