MAC and World AIDS Day event in Edinburgh

2 min read

The MAC AIDS Fund has raised more than $270 million dollars to date since it’s inception in 1994, which have helped men, women and children globally, living with HIV/AIDS. The make up brand are proud of their fundraising work, and so they should be.

And every year they come up with new fundraising initiatives that are fun as well as helpful and informative. And their VIVA GLAM products raise valuable funds – typically one VIVA GLAM purchase can buy five meals for a person living with HIV, but this year MAC will match all VIVA GLAM product sales online on World AIDS Day, December 1, so on that day a VIVA GLAM lipstick purchase online could buy 10 meals.

And on Saturday, in Edinburgh, Waverly Care, Festival Theatre and M.A.C Cosmetics are working together to present a living exhibition which will challenge HIV stigma. The exhibition includes a full body painting on a professional model, created by M.A.C artists, as well as the opportunity for the general public to participate in body painting.  Members of the public will be invited to full in the spaces with a colour that represents how they feel about HIV/AIDS.

Also included are designs created at workshops with young people and with people who are living with or affected by HIV.  The exhibition will take shape throughout the day and people are encouraged to visit the Festival Theatre between 2 pm and 7 pm to see the work in progress.

It’s a fascinating and intriguing project – it will be interesting to see the results, which I will post here. So, if you are interested, and in Edinburgh, then get along to the Festival Theatre, between 2pm and 7pm and join in.
