Pumpkin products for Hallowe'en!

2 min read

It’s Hallowe’en tomorrow in case you hadn’t noticed! Pumpkins have become synonymous with this time of year. Back when I was a kid, we used to hollow out and decorate turnips (well, my dad did!) for a ‘tumshie lantern’. But then I’m just old and Scottish.

The American pumpkin is much easier to carve, and looks spooky – these are mine, pictured left, do you like them?!. But what of pumpkins themselves?

They’re actually pretty good for us, and they have been utilised in a few beauty products, as well as their seeds, pumpkins seeds of course, being one of the most popular health food snacks around.

Emma Hardie’s Moringa Foaming Cleansing Wash (£34, spacenk.com, emmahardie.co.uk) has pumpkin fruit extracts to help get your skin squeaky clean. Blended with Moringa plant based peptides they ensure your skin is left thoroughly cleansed, purified and refreshed.

And those Pumpkin Seeds aren’t just good to much on, they’re excellent for the skin . Find them in the gorgeous Suti Organic Foot Balm (£16, suti.co.uk). This lovely brand is reasonably priced, organic and full of fresh, effective ingredients.

The Foot Balm has been specially blended to rehydrate and revive chapped, tired and aching feet. Eucalyptus and lemon cool, cleanse and deodorise, olive oil, avocado and carrot nourish and quench, and calendula, rosemary and our pumpkin seeds soothe and stimulate.

American beauty company MyChelle are available at Whole Foods and Harrods in the UK, and have three brilliant pumpkin products. The MyChelle Pumpkin Renew Cream, £ 23.50, is vegetarian friendly and gluten free. It’s made to plump up the skin’s hydration with the power of pumpkin! Infused with Cloud Berry Seed Oil, Acai and Camu Camu Fruit Extracts, and an Epidermal Growth Factor (a polypeptide responsible for cellular tissue healing), the Pumpkin Renew Cream comes in scented and unscented.

The MyChelle Creamy Pumpkin Cleanser, from £9,  is anti-ageing, and really creamy, so lovely for dry, winter skin. The pumpkin helps with hydration. And then there’s the Incredible Pumpkin Peel £24.50, which is great for all skin types, and is rich, enzyme-heavy therapy for deep stimulation and detoxification. It’s a blend of Pumpkin Pulp, Enzymes and Fermented Juice. Urgh. Sounds a bit creepy, but it’s loaded with antioxidants, and will rejuvenate and support cellular integrity while clearing pores and aiding detoxification.

You really need to do a patch test with this one. Not necessarily in a pumpkin patch…oh dear, that was a bad joke. Hope the ‘guisers’ or trick or treaters have better tomorrow night! Happy Hallowe’en everyone!
