The perfect base

Foundation. That’s been on my mind this week. I’ve had loads of new samples coming into the office, and I’ve been alternating between them. I like a light base, not much coverage, particularly when the weather hots up.

Fore the last few weeks I’ve been using either MAC Face And Body Foundation (£25.50, maccosmetics.co.uk) which I was reintroduced to after a very long absence recently, and I have to say I can’t get enough of it. This stuff is just brilliant. It offers buildable coverage, and goes on effortlessly. It’s water-resistant, and moisturising. The 120ml pot  is big and bulky and you just know it’s always going to be there!

Before that came along I was addicted to Estee Lauder’s DayWear BB Creme (£32, esteelauder.co.uk). This ‘Beauty Benefit’ Creme as they call it is the lightest of coverages, but you can tell it’s there if you know what I mean. They do say you can wear this under foundation, but I love it on its own, with a little concealer where I need it. And the DayWear fragrance is heavenly!

So, those are two I had been using, but now I am torn between L’Oreal’s Nude Magique BB Cream Bare Skin Beautifier (£9.99, boots.com) and YSL’s new Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation (£28, yslbeauty.co.uk). The former claims to ‘mimic the texture and glow of perfect bare skin’. This is white when it is applied, and it magically changes when it touches the skin. I really enjoyed using this, It has little capsules in it as well – smart pigment capsules, which melt into the skin. It has an SPF of 12, and really does give you that nude skin look.

The latter is the brand new foundation from YSL, based on their cult product, Touche Eclat, this is simply a foundation version, with illuminating properties. It is still quite light coverage, but more than the BB creams and tinted moisturisers. It comes in 22 shades, and I felt like my skin was glowing when I wore it at the weekend. It gives you cover, but doesn’t feel like you’re masked in makeup, which is just perfect in my book! It will be on counter from July 9.
