Here’s a little round-up of some beauty news for the end of the week – and beauty is making a difference in many ways right now, from helping low self-esteem, to looking after our world. Oh, and what’s Victoria Beckham wearing now?!

* Victoria Beckham’s endorsement for your brand would set yo back a pretty penny or two, so we bet Stila were jumping through hoops when she told Harper’s Bazaar magazine that she loved their Lip Glaze and Concealers. If you want to copy Posh, then a Lip Glaze will set you back £15, and the Brighten & Correct Concealer  is £18. Stila is available at lots of places online – harveynichols.com, boots.com, stila.co.uk, asos.com, spacenk.co.uk, beautybay.com, feelunique.com, lookfantastic.com and more.

*This Sunday (April 22) is Earth Day, and The Body Shop are proud to launch ‘Wood Positive’ a brand new initiative that aims to plant and protect more trees than it uses in its supply chain, thereby increasing the world’s natural resources rather than depleting them. Many cosmetics companies are guilty of not doing enough for sustainability, so this is a great commitment from The Body Shop.  The Body Shop has always strived to minimise packaging as much as possible, and currently uses approximately 6,000 tonnes of paper and pulp in its packaging every year. All sources of paper and pulp are recycled or Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) derived wherever possible, ensuring that the process is low impact and earth friendly. As part of the Wood Positive initiative, The Body Shop is continuing to commit to only using FSC derived resources for packaging, and reducing packaging altogether where possible. Soon, consumers will be able to identify Wood Positive products by the logo which will be appearing on products at The Body Shop which use paper-based packaging throughout the year.

* Could the celebrity-obsession be waning? According to new research commissioned by Dove, young girls are shunning female celebrities and looking to their mums as the most positive role models in their lives. Mums soar above the rest with 37% of the votes cast. In a not-so-close second place, came Cheryl Cole (8%), with Angelina Jolie coming in third with 4% and Kate Middleton fourth with 3% of the votes. These findings are part of the Dove launches the 2012campaign for Dove Self-Esteem Programme (DSEP), looking at the effect of self-esteem among 11-17 year old girls. Dove has developed the programme  to make a real change to the way young girls perceive and embrace beauty. Through the DSEP, Dove will be reaching out to young people in the UK through self-esteem workshops, which will be held in schools all over the country. Any Dove product bought between 26th March – 15th May 2012 will help to give a girl a self-esteem education, through donations to BEAT  – the UK’s leading charity for those affected by eating disorders) to deliver self-esteem workshops in schools. Mums can also get involved by visiting Dove.co.uk to access the DSEP Mother & Daughter Discussion and Activity guides, providing a useful aid in helping to boost girls’ self-esteem.
