Spring scents

I’m still full of the joys of spring – isn’t sunshine the best drug?! Spring means a new raft of spring scents – so here are five of my favourite that are out now, or on their way soon.

1. Tom Ford Private Blend Lavender Palm (£120 for 50ml, harveynichols.com, houseoffraser.co.uk) is the latest in one of my absolute favourite collections. I can’t help it, I am a Tom Ford Private Blend junkie. I ADORE everything about them – the bottle, the label and, of course, the fragrances. This new one is inspired by California and its relaxed, refined elegance, along with its vibrancy.

It smells amazing – using two types of lavender – a bright flash of Lavandin, and concentrated herbal undertones of Lavender Absolute. It also has lemon, bergamot, and palm leaf, as well as cedar, and rich green moss. They all make for a weird, intoxicating scent that is fresh, and rich, and really addictive!

2. Clinique’s Happy in Bloom (£25 for 30ml, clinique.co.uk) is a gorgeous fresh, floral fragrance – it has the floral heart of Happy, but coupled with chilled, watery notes. And how cute is the bottle? If you like bold and bright, then this is for you. If you like fruity, floral fragrances you can’t beat it. Not my personal favourite, but a lovely spring scent.

3. Marc Jacobs Petite Flowers on the Go Daisy EDT Flower and Daisy Eau So Fresh EDT Flower (Both £25 for 20ml, available from April 4, daisymarcjacobs.co.uk) are two cute as a button little flowers you can carry around with you. The white one is the original Daisy fragrance, the pink is the bright, floral and fruity Eau So Fresh. It’s really retro to me – there’s something comforting about it – maybe it has a hint of 80s fragrances i recall from my teens?! Top notes are ruby red grapefruit and raspberry, a middle of voilet and wild rose, and a base of musk and plum.

4. Jo Malone London London Blooms Collection (£72 for 100ml, jomalone.com) is a new collection of three fragrances, all in lovely bottles with floral artwork and little ribbons on them, as Jo Malone London moves in a slightly different direction. With the actual Jo Malone launching her own Jo Loves collection, this Jo Malone should now be referred to as Jo Malone London. The three scents are Peony & Moss, White Lilac & Rhubarb and Iris & Lady Moore. All of them are juxtapositions that would rarely happen in flowerbeds, but seem to work. I liked all three of them when I had a quick smell, but was drawn to the Peony & Moss as peonies remind me of my granny’s garden as a little girl. However,  the scent does have a little bit of a similar smell to an old favourite of mine from a certain high street chain…

5. Coach Poppy  EDP (£36 for 30ml, £48 for 50ml, £64 for 100ml, debenhams.com, harrods.com) is a new one for me. VERY fruity and floral. Not my cup of tea really, but something lovely about it – perhaps the initial top note of bright cucumber flower petals? This is a really easy fragrance to wear, and perfect for a young girl. The bottle is gorgeous!
