Firm it Up...

I dunno, getting old is depressing! After turning 40 last year, I’ve had to have a serious think about my skincare routine. I don’t have bad skin – I have very few lines and wrinkles for my age, and I don’t feel the ‘sag’ just yet.

However, prevention is always better than cure, so I’ve paid extra attention to two ‘Firming’ products of late. The first is Clinique’s New Repairwear Uplifting Firming Cream (£50). It comes in two skin-typed formulas,Very Dr to Dry and Dry Combination to Combination Oily.

Ive not tried this for long enough yet – all I can say right now is it feel rich and is enjoyable to apply – but it claims to help restore ‘dermal cushion’ within four weeks. This basically means it works to ‘plump’ your skin, by boosting the natural elements in it that deplete with age.

Things like collagen and elastin fibres that work  to keep your skin plump and firm.

Clarins have just relaunched and reformulated their Extra Firming range, which first came to market in 1978.

There are three products in the range – a Day Cream, a Night Cream and a Lotion. I’ve just started to use the Clarins Extra Firming Night Rejuvenating Cream (£48) which works on the epidermis as you sleep. The range, claim Clarins, have leapt into the future, combining cutting edge skincare, with the genius of nature, using pioneering organic plant extracts. The Day Cream and Lotion are both £46, and the creams come in two skin-typed formulas – All Skin Types and Special for Dry Skin. I find the Night Cream – I’m using the one for dry skin – rich, and rewarding, just the thing you want to put on before bed. Only time will tell if they actually work!

Products are available now, from Clinique and Clarins counters nationwide, and clinique.co.uk, and clarins.co.uk
