Brows, brows, brows...

Yes, I’m back on about brows again. This time how to wax them yourself – and how to grow them! If you have read my brow post earlier this week, you’ll know that I have had a love/hate relationship with my poor eyebrows. I’ve abused them for years, simple as that.

So, I am delighted to have found two products, one of which I currently have to take a beauty journalist friend’s word for – and that of 5pm’s Craig Alexander Wilson – RapidBrow (£37, boots.com). It’s basically an eyebrow enhancing serum, and my friend Emma, who thinks she has sparse brows, can’t stop raving about it.

With all the damage I’ve done to my brows, from over-plucking, too much threading, waxing, shaving and all sorts, mine too are a wee bit patchy and uneven in places, so I am hoping this promotes their growth.

And then, of course, I want to make sure the bits that grow where I don’t want them come off again!

I’ve had my brows threaded, professionally plucked and waxed at counter and in a salon. I can’t make my mind up which, if any, of the treatments I like the best. My brows did look amazing when Shavata herself threaded and tinted them a few years ago at the launch of her brow bar in Edinburgh’s Harvey Nichols, but at over £20 a pop for threading, I’ve not rushed back.

Hilary Foote, BeneFit’s brow expert also tended to my brows once, on a visit to the Glasgow store, and they were again, amazing. But on the whole, and being a bit of a control freak, I started to find threading taking off too much and sitting at counter having them done, annoying me!

So, I started to treat them myself, with Parissa Brow Shaper Mini Wax Strips (£7.99, boots.com, wholefoods.com, amazon.co.uk). I first tried these last Autumn, when I had let my brows get out of hand. They are SO simple to use.

Yes, you are waxing your own eyebrows, but these tiny little soft strips are simple to manipulate, and pretty painless to use. I wouldn’t recommend doing these the day of a night out – there is some redness left.

But the pack comes with a little bottle of Parissa Azulene Oil which soothes and calms. It’s the simplest way of doing my eyebrows I’ve experienced in years. If you miss any little strays, just pluck them away, admire your handiwork, and you’re good to go!

Of course if you do prefer to get someone else to do it, check out the main 5pm Health and Beauty site for lots of brilliant eyebrow offers!
